Weddings
You are someone who wants to have a relaxing, fun time at your wedding. Visual beauty and composition are extremely important to you. You care about quality and consistency. You like things a little different. You feel something stirring in your body when you look at a black and white image with some deep texture in it. You probably love music and let yourself go full on and dance to it. You dip your bread in luscious olive oil instead of eating it with butter. You are open-minded, expressive, and want to have your photos tell a story. You want your emotions in your photos. You aren’t interested in smiling for every photo cause you aren’t happy all the time. You love passion. While you appreciate and honor the tradition of having a wedding, you also want something beyond ordinary. You welcome the unexpected moments. You go out of your way to make your vision a reality. You move with your inspirations, your spirit is adventurous. You love travel. You love LOVE and you find it sexy. If you have seen my wedding portfolio and you feel our tastes, styles, and ideas are a match, please contact me at julie@julieadamsphotography.com …. even if you think your project might not be grand enough, go ahead and inquire, I’m always interested in talking to new clients about their projects, no matter how small or large.
ME: I photograph people. Artists (musicians, models, actors, etc.), politicians, children, beautiful women and men, everyday people interacting with their environment, people in love, and countless others. I photograph weddings in Cannon Beach, OR where I currently live. Family photography and portrait sessions happen there too. In addition, I have been shooting weddings and other projects in the western U.S. including Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Bend, OR; Los Angeles, CA; and Hawaii. I also travel worldwide for: destination weddings, travel photography, fashion photography/editorial, commercial, and portrait photo sessions. I am open to any interesting work. I usually have long relationships with most of my clients and once a connection is made, I am honored that they keep coming back for more photos year after year. I try to use photography as a way to empower people, to show their true soul and inner strength. I always wanted life to be filled with inspiration, passion, joy, travel, connecting with interesting people, being of service, and making the world a little better after I leave it.
MORE INFO: I have crossed paths with some amazing mentors. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with me. About weddings: I’m aware that there are precise, defining “moments” and I try to stay out of the way while shooting to capture them. I have been fortunate to work with some very kind and talented celebrity clients including U.S. Senator Ron Wyden & Nancy Bass Wyden, Lucinda Williams & Tom Overby, Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn, etc. My work has been featured in magazines such as Portland Monthly Magazine, Portland Bride and Groom, Chicago Social Magazine, and others. The real reward for me always comes back to a connection with the people I work with. I have documented hundreds of weddings and each one is unique. I strive to infuse passion, joy, authenticity and soulfulness in my images. I work with both digital and film upon request. I started out with black and white film years ago, and over the years it has become known as my artistic signature style. I work mainly with digital now and most of my wedding/portrait clients gravitate toward my film work and request b/w film to be added to their package. I am down to earth, very approachable, and believe in having a low profile at my weddings. In my experience, letting things unfold naturally yields the best images.
About travel photography/editorial/ portraits/ fashion/commercial: After staying in Italy for some time, I fell in love with international travel photography and started wandering the globe to find more subjects. Portfolio reviews with People Magazine/L.A. and New York, and Associated Press/Los Angeles brought praise and freelance options for my human interest/travel portfolios. My favorite travel photography spots so far include Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, All the rest of Europe, Maui, All the Hawaiian Islands, Costa Rica….and many more to come. However, I am secretly married to Italy. In all the world there is no end to magical moments with everyday people. I’m grateful that I have found a way to connect with others, find my voice with the camera, and express what I feel for a living. I’m humbled to remember that all of this work came from nothing in the beginning, except a lust to be part of making an amazing, passionate image. Thank you to my inspirations in photography Henri Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, Walker Evans, Peter Lindbergh, Antoine Verglas, Mary Ellen Mark, Annie Leibowitz, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritz, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, and countless others. Without inspiration the photograph wouldn’t exist.
Other: Born in Minnesota, my family moved west when I was 6 yrs. old. I came to Cannon Beach later for the raw, dramatic scenery, AND the surfing. I love the water. It centers me in my life. In addition to my photography, I give surf instruction as another way to connect with people and help empower them using water. I also play music and sing. All of these things are grounding for me. Nautica’s Ocean 2 Ocean tour produced a short, moving, feature video on my work in the water here.
